What is PRP?

Joseph

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a popular treatment in aesthetics that can be used to rejuvenate the skin and stimulate hair growth.

What is plasma? Plasma is the part of your blood that carries platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells around the body.

What is PRP? The process separating the platelets from the red and white blood cells. Involves taking a small amount of blood from a patient, inserting this into a centrifuge machine that spins the blood, separating the platelets from other blood components.

Why Do We Want Platelets?

Platelets are rich in growth factors and proteins that can accelerate tissue repair, stimulate collagen production, and promote the regeneration of damaged tissue. Once concentrated into a solution they can be reinjected into the treatment area to improve skin texture and laxity and restore hair growth.

Is there a standardised process for PRP in the U.K?

No. Significant variations exist in how PRP is prepared and processed, and these differences have a profound impact on treatment outcomes. it’s essential to recognise that not all PRP is the same.

Is Platelet Concentration Important?

Yes! Fundamentally this is one of the most important factors in PRP treatment. Quality of PRP is influenced by the equipment used to process the blood. The choice of equipment is crucial because it directly affects the concentration of platelets in the final PRP product
